Neil,

This is the slimline filter IIR, did you have any problems with th lens cap?

Which lens cap do you have? The old style side tab or the pinch style one?

I use the same 007M filters and they're not technically "slim" in the sense you're thinking of. I did a bunch of research on it at one point and can't remember all the distinctions, but the 007M still takes a regular Canon lens cap, and has the external threads to take another filter in front of it should you want to.

Thank you!

My pleasure, when I was researching it I think I did something really impressive like type "B+W 007M vs 010M" into Google and went from there. My concern was ending up with a "slim" filter will all their limitations. The 007M has plenty of purchase on the lens cap, no issue at all getting it on and off even with a hood in place. I had a B+W KSM CPL screwed on it the other day with no problem at all as well.

@ Nick.Reading.Uk - I have used a few filter brands over the years, and in recent years I only use these b+w filters for my lenses, always found they are good quality and they dont effect the image quality at all.

I also use the b+w ND filters for landscapes, b+w are not the cheapest but the quality is hard to beat, plus you get a good service buying from WEX too.

I went back and dug up some of my old research on this. Attached is a link directly from Schneider Optics (which makes the B+W filters). In short, the 010M has UV protection, and the 007M is clear and only serves as a "protector" rather than any sort of filter.

I went with the 007M because I need a protector on the lens all the time and if I want a filtering effect, I'll do it intentionally.

Here's the link from Schneider:

this is one of the few filter threads I've seen that was not overwhelmed by the anti filter jihadists. bravo. maybe we are making progress :D. I use top of the line hoya and B+W UV filters.

Great point Ed. I try to avoid those as well. With the money we spend on glass, it always seemed to me to be the ultimate "personal choice" on whether we elect to use one or not.
