Cake smash pull back shot for my photographer friends (Also used for portraits) Shoot Baby white studio roll flooring and wall mounted vinyl backdrop. Strobes are Dragon Image's lightpro 500w with softy on main light to camera left and brolly on backlight. Camera set to custom WB, ISO 100, F4.5, 1/160th with the 24-70 2.8L on my 5Dmk3. Chair is a guide to show how far off the backdrop your subject needs to be. Oh and the super adorable model is Jasmine who had her cake smash with me today ! I will post some more pull backs of different set ups over the next few weeks.

thanks for posting. I was looking for tips just like this one :) I went to the shoot baby website though and they only have the Jarrah coloured flooring available for Australia. Such a shame as I love the white!! Where did you buy the white vinyl backdrop?

Love to see set up shots, thanks for sharing!! Just curious, do you have do to any post processing on the transition between the floor & backdrop?

Not really, if anything I use the dodge tool to brighten, I don't mind seeing the floor to backdrop. My backdrop has a white weight along the bottom, that is what you can see behind the child.

Hi Seona,

Great tips :)

Quick question - does the single umbrella on the right light all the background evenly?

Hi David,

Yes, it does, perfectly. I have since changed lighting set ups though, not I have one light with a westocott 7 foot parabolic brolly. And there's been no need for a backlight.

The white backdrop is a thick roller blind I had custom made through a blind/shutter company. It was $400AU installed. It works a treat, was cheaper than from a photo place and it's very thick, so I can clip seamless paper to it for a colour change. It also removes the need for backdrop stands.
