So I've been reading a lot of posts about the new Siggy. How's it stack up against it's cheaper brother? I have the old one and have always been happy with it, anybody done any side by side comparisons with the two?

May 09, 2014 16:10 | #2 Most comparisons are against much more expensive lenses like the 50L or Zeiss 55 OTUS. That's the league the new Sigma 50 Art is in anyway

And the new design renders more like the zeiss OTUS. You can look at those images and you will see the differences. I plan to use the old sigma that will specialize for dreamy-looking portraits. I plan to use the new sigma when I need corner to corner sharpness and f1.4. 5Diii | 50D | 8-15L 4| 16-35L 2.8 II| 24-70L 2.8 II | 70-200L 2.8 IS II |Tamy 150-600 | Σ35Art 1.4 | 40 2.8 | Σ50Art 1.4 | 85L 1.2 II | 100 2.8 Macro | Helios 44-3 58mm f2.0 |Helios 40-1 85mm f1.5 | 1.4x & 2x teleconverters

I hope it gets delivered soon. I don't think there will be many that are fortunate enough to have both! (Should I say rich enough, or well-to-do?)...It's on my list (the Sigma) but probably around Santa's time... ![]() Hey not really rich, but addicted. The good thing is that lens do not depreciate as much as smartphones or other must have electronics. So I avoid buying those trends, so I can afford lens that I can resell without too much hurt. But yeah, I cant wait to compare. I did once owned the 35L and the sig35 all at once. But eventually I decided to let go my 35L because someone offered me more money than I had bought it for. Buy smart, and you don't have to be rich. 5Diii | 50D | 8-15L 4| 16-35L 2.8 II| 24-70L 2.8 II | 70-200L 2.8 IS II |Tamy 150-600 | Σ35Art 1.4 | 40 2.8 | Σ50Art 1.4 | 85L 1.2 II | 100 2.8 Macro | Helios 44-3 58mm f2.0 |Helios 40-1 85mm f1.5 | 1.4x & 2x teleconverters

I currently own 35L and sigma 35mm f1.4. Owned canon & sigma 50mm f1.4 for a while. Same with 100-400L and 400mm f5.6 or 5dmk3 and 6d. Fuji XT-1, 18-55mm

You can see a direct side by side comparison here: http://www.dpreview.com …version2=0&fl2=50&av2=1.4 And here: http://www.the-digital-picture.com …omp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=0 Sure, technically it's a sharper and is a near flawless lens. But what gives the desired rendering qualities for the 50l and old sigma are it's optical flaws. So it might be worth keeping both 50s. 5Diii | 50D | 8-15L 4| 16-35L 2.8 II| 24-70L 2.8 II | 70-200L 2.8 IS II |Tamy 150-600 | Σ35Art 1.4 | 40 2.8 | Σ50Art 1.4 | 85L 1.2 II | 100 2.8 Macro | Helios 44-3 58mm f2.0 |Helios 40-1 85mm f1.5 | 1.4x & 2x teleconverters
