Paris and f1.4's---- 35mm or 50mm??

Hello all,

Im heading to France next month which Im taking my 24-105L for everyday street use.
Im also going to Hellfest, for 3 day's which surprisingly okay's a 70-200mm lens (which Im bringing). I do NOT intend on carrying the 70-200 around on daily walkarounds, ( only the concert). So…………...

My question is, do I bring a 35mm 1.4 or 50mm 1.4 for my 2nd walk around lens?

Ive never been to France, and I figured I needed a faster lens for museums, pub's and general indoor shot's.

Any advice is much appreciated.

It's a matter of personal preference, but as a general purpose prime, the 35 focal length would be more versatile

I'd roll the 35. You can crop it images. Also, old Europe is crammed. It's not a big wide open space, so longer focal lengths focus on one thing and eliminate context. But travel photography like this is all about context, so wider is better here. Again you can always crop down. I'd even consider a 28mm....

Like above, its personal preference. Id leave the zoom away and only take me 50L and/or my 35mm equivalent Fuji x100s

Are you saying you wouldn't use the 24-105 at all?

Having lived there a year, I would definitely take the 24-105 and the 35 1.4.

The think is the 35 will be nice for outside in the evenings and such, and indoors you can get pretty close to most artwork. With IS the zoom might also work for indoor art anyway since you can take a burst and choose the sharpest shot.

I agree not to bother with the 70-200 for walkaround.

the 35 though if you have some cash lying around a 24 might be nice too

take the 24-105 and the 35. Having the zoom for walking around is a very good idea, and if you take the widerr prime you can always crop a bit but you can't add pixels on to a narrower shot.

The zoom will allow you to quickly change framing as needed. A bag full of primes is not lighter or less bulky.

+1 This is exactly what I was thinking.

24-105 for general use and prime for night shots without tripod. Which ever focal length you are most happy with is the one you should pick. 50 on FF is great for me.

Between those two primes I would definitely choose the 35L. Better contrast and colors, less processing.
You can alway crop your images, but indoors or outdoors you can't alway back up to get the shot.

Skip the 24-105 and just take the 35 and 70-200. I used my 70-200 quite a bit for compressing cityscapes and pulling in architecture details. Well worth it's weight.

I'd take the 35.

Canon 70-200mm 2.8L II .... Canon 35mm 1.4L

I'd take the zooms and the 35. I'd have the 24-105 on my camera in Paris but I'd have both the 70-200 and the 35 with me. Been to Paris many times; there are places where the 70-200 would be nice to have available. JMHO
