The game will last 1 week and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be
picked as the winner, and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the
image, some entrants are a little vague on this point - please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the
Unsharp Mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for
knowledge and tip use only. Feel free to comment and/or ask questions at any time. This is a good competition for learning new methods,
so let's make it a bit more dynamic. I will be judging edits, not comments. Feel free to comment on the original image as well.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…
the next game should read "Before & After #520".

Submissions end, Friday, May 16, 2014 at Noon (EST) and a winner will be announced.

Yet another strange being!

IMAGE: http://i396.photobucket.com/albums/pp49/dougle/POTN/BA_519_WeirdEye.jpg

I didn't try to download the RAW file, just copied and pasted.

I made the image background into a layer. Transformed to exactly half the original size.
Duplicated and flipped the copy horizontally and moved over to mirror the first layer.
Snapshot the visible to a new layer, duplicated it and flipped the duplicate vertically, moved the duplicate up to mirror the snapshot.
Snapshot visible these last two layers to a new layer, ran Filter>Distort>Polar Coordinates>Rectangular to Polar.
Selected just the oval shape around the new image, inverted the selection and deleted the rest of the background.
Ran Filter>Distort>Spherize at 100%, made a selection of the outcome to use as the shadow.
Created a new layer with the selection active and filled with a black to transparent radial gradient.
Used Transform>Perspective on the gradient layer and adjusted the size of the shadow then ran Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur on it at 8 pixels.
Moved the shadow layer under the oval shape layer and positioned to taste.
Duplicated the oval shape layer and set the blend mode to Screen just to lighten it up a bit.
And finally, added a new layer for the background color #eeeeed to match POTN background.

Trimmed to fit the cinematic form I wanted, then color balanced to bring more cyan into the shadows and more warmth to the highlights and capture that big screen look,.

Then I color toned the eye, added some yellow for jaundice. Added the hand holding the blade (Oriented so it looks like the eye's owner is holding the knife) and added blood to the blade.

Added text and a border to complete the look.

In LR: increased contrast and clarity, mid-contrast curve, cloned out a black speck that really bugged me.
Nik: increased structure 80%
Topaz Adjust filter: Portrait-Drama

Morning guys, and thanks for the entries! Four very different approaches!

Douglas: Cool idea! I'd like to have seen a little more shape added to the sphere via some extra shading,
and for you to have kept the circular shape of the iris intact to make it look even more like a real monster!

frenchfx: Another weird one! The first thing that came to my mind was Smaug for some reason...
The cloning's been done well, but I think it would've been really awesome with some dodging and burning,
and some fun with hue and saturation. The sharpening is a little overdone for me.

Vetteography: (He's out of town at the moment I believe, so I'll skip past him!)

T3 Heavy Shop: I love the amount of detail that's been revealed in the whites of the eye, but the contrast is
a little too much for me - though I get that's the style you were going for. I think in black and white, or sepia,
this would have worked even better.

Because of the amount of detail you've revealed, T3 Heavy Shop,
yours was the one that captured my attention for the longest, so you win this week!

And just to show another approach, this is my edit!

Congrats T3 and great ideas from all! I certainly was at a loss of what to do with this one until I got that crazy monster, funny looking creature thing going. :D
