just got back from an adventure of a lifetime - trekking straight up a Volcano at 9200' to watch the Mountain gorillas - we hiked in torrential rain, calf deep mud that resembled wet cement and chocolate pudding - my Canon MK IV and 70-200 got drenched but still works - can't say the same for some of the guys with 5d III and 40-70 - not sealed as well -
hope you enjoy-

check out my husband's video he got some good stuff before giving up in the monsoon:

Some shots from the 2nd day - better light no rain

Those are really good and good shots are hard to come by in the dark of those forests. We saw mountain gorillas in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (aptly named), so I know what a struggle it is to get to them. Hardest hiking I ever did. There is a reason they are called mountain gorillas. If anyone is thinking of doing this, and you should, just do it when you are young and supple.

yes one of the guys used a mono pod - as did my husband with the video - it doubled as a walking stick- they would not allow tripods but it did not seem to be a problem with a mono pod - but we heard others would not let the carry them so it may have depended on the guide - my husband did not take it the 2nd day -

Thanx Marcy.

Was that a guide sort of "yelling" that you can hear in the video. I thought everyone was supposed to be relitivley quiet when with the Gorillas

he was tell in every body to "shoot" and "move here and there" the rain was so hard it was hard to hear and keep up with the chase on. the second day the guide was quieter with his directions -and the gorillas did not move very much

GREAT--NOW you tell me  I guess it's the zoo for me....

I actually lived in the Congo (Kinshasa) when I was "young and supple" (high school) but at that age I was more interested in girls than gorillas.

BTW--Those are Terrific shots and I agree that I hope they can survive although I'm not that optimistic.
