I have been following this ladys work since she popped up in a flickr blog. I think it is amazing photography, but I'm trying to figure out what she is doing with the colours to get the look she does. It seems there is a lot of brown? in the images? Is it a simple desat or is she changing a particular region of lighting that is doing this? I have tried but I can't really get it without making it look too fake. It's almost a sepia over colour or something.

Very helpful. Why don't you point the OP to some then?

Heh! A forum search for "Elena Shumilova" did kick up one thread with her name in it:

https://photography-on-the.net …highlight=Elena+Shumilova

But perhaps a lot could be gained from the "broader" Internet, a Google search for "elena shumilova photoshop" kicked up an interesting bunch of links:

Cheers Tony. I found a good sized thread on here within the potn link you posted. I'll join that one.....unless someone has an issue with bringing back an "older" thread from January.....

To be honest I didn't even think to google her name, but hey, I like this place better anyway!

The reason I say oh god is because everytime another one one of these threads come up, people begin to argue about the quality of post processing work, if is good or not, etc.

what is interesting is the difference in image quality between her flickr feed on page 1 and images posted on page 3. the technique wasn't always there.

I guess that will always be the case with any style of processing.
I certainly wouldn't do all my photos like that because I don't often take the type of shots like she does, but it was more a question of the technical aspects of what she would be doing in post to get those colours she gets rather than the other PPing she is doing. They all have a fairly fixed look to them colorwise, that was what I was interested in.

One of the aspects of her work that not-so-discerning people may fail to grasp is that a significant component of the 'look' she gets is because her shots are almost all backlit. There's no photoshop button that accomplishes that aspect of the work at least.

I understand that. Again this more is about the brownish colours she PP's into them. It has an almost old look to it, which I like.

Very interesting style. Seems her style is derived mostly in PP.
