Finally got ripped off here on POTN last week. I've been a member for years and have many positive transactions. Learned my lesson and hoping paypal will reimburse me for the item I did not receive.

That sucks to hear. I know how you feel. Same happened to me on here not too long ago. Luckily, I paid via regular PayPal and only about $25 with credit card (didn't have enough funds). Filed a dispute the moment I was able to and escalated to PayPal when I can. Got back full amount from PayPal within 10 days of escalating.

I have had very good luck both buying and selling here. I always use regular Paypal, using a credit card for Paypal so I have two layers of folks that may be willing to go to bat for me if something goes wrong. I am happy to say I've never needed to test that out.

Same here. I've bought and sold a few thousand dollars worth of stuff on here and have had 100% perfect transactions. Use the above mentioned PayPal protocol, and investigate your buyer/seller: meaning are they active on here or FM? eBay?

So as long you covered yourself and did the write thing, nothing to be bothered. When I got scammed, I was worried only the first 2 days. After that, I knew PayPal would do the right thing and recover my funds.

You just have to go with your gut feelings and do your research on the seller. Ultimately, if the deal is too good to be true, it probably is.

Another user explained to me that when buying always ask for details and ask plenty of questions.

[QUOTE=Bleufire;16902628]I go full on stalker on whoever I buy from. quote]

This is what I do when I buy or sell. I review past posts and marketplace feedback both here and on Fred Miranda (if applicable) I'm just as cautious selling as I am buying. You can learn a lot from seeing what a prospective buyer/seller is all about from those posts.

I'm primarily interested if the person is an actual photographer (pro or hobbyist) and shares their images here on potn. I also look for past posts where a person may have asked a question about the item they are selling like: "I got an error on my camera this morning when I turned it on, but now it is fine" If I find that they are trying to sell this camera a few weeks/months later, I will probably pass.

If it is a high ticket item, then I want to deal with someone who has been a part of potn for a long time. There are a lot of great people here and I've bought and sold more than I can count with all positive experiences. Now that I've said that I'll probably get stung on a future transaction, but I try to be careful.
