Presuming you'll be using a modifier, the height of the stand has to be high enough to permit the modifier to just touch the ground, preferably with a slight downward tilt.

I use this LumoPro Background Stand (external link).
It can go from 1 to 3 foot high. Should work for you if you use modifiers.

I also like, that it's very compact, when folded:

hope this helps.

Think out side the box a little and get a reversible center column tripod like the Benro A2970F. You can rest it on the ground with that if you wish instead of just near it.

Neither of these solutions would be very feasible with a softbox.

I've put a small umbrella and a speed light, with the umbrella touching the ground with the above tripod. I see no reason you couldn't do it with a strobe.

I made a home made solution quite similar to that. I used a 1' x 1' piece of masonite with a whole in the middle for an appropriate size bolt that could be used to mount my Alien Bees.

Ok thanks all for the replies… now all of these are good. I should have said I have a beauty dish I'd like to get just above ground and then a plm that is the 64" that I'd like to be able to get low enough to just touch the ground. The beauty Dish I have really enjoyed using lately with the dogs. Some of those plates look good but I'm not sure they are to feasible to tilt the dish well. It has to be able to hold the weight of the einstein and dish?
A few of those compact stands look good but will they do well to hold the weight?

I would say, not reliably. If you have the budget, get the short C stand kit and a baby pin. You won't regret it. ;)
