Hi there,

Pocketwizard FlexTT5 mounted to a Canon MT-24ex macro flashgun

I want to know whether anyone has successfully managed to 'pair'
a Pocketwizard Flex TT5 with the MT-24ex Macro Twin Lite.

If so, what would be the benefits of doing this in the macro-world??

[I have been on the Pocketwizard website, under the Canon compatibility guide this MT-24ex is not listed].

Thanks in advance

:)

No electrical contacts/pins at the shoe of the flash heads. All the contacts are at the shoe of the control unit. See page 6 and 7 here:

Should work on the 270EX I but then again, you might as well use 2x 270 EX II and compatible body (like 60D, 7D, 70D and above) to wirelessly trigger the 270EX II. Not sure if you can still get ETTL though.

Hey thanks Kurt,

Just experimenting

Ok I downloaded this online manual which has helped [my original hardcopy is now in tatters].

The way that I plan to use my setup is to entice the bugs to a pre-determined point using sugar-grains as bait.
The camera will be tripod-mounted and 'attended' by me.
The MT-24ex attached to another Flex TT5 will be light-stand-mounted - 'unattended'

I contacted Pocketwizard recently, they have replied that there should be no problems in experimenting with using this combination of gear as nothing will get damaged --> so that's a relief.

I have now experimented with this setup without a camera-body, to see whether 1xTT5 acting as a trigger, activates the remotely mounted TT5 & MT-24ex --> wahay! it works perfectly fine!

What isn't clear is whether the exposure is accurate. Will need to get a new camera body very quickly.
Also, I am not sure whether the MT-24ex in conjunction with the Flex TT5 will support E-TTl/TTL.
Page 8 of the MT-24ex manual does show the the flashgun's LCD PANEL features for E-TTl/TTL, I just need to check whether the PW TT5/MiniTT1 can trigger this flashgun in these modes.

Certainly, the actual hand-held Flex TT5 in 'basic-trigger-mode' is successfully firing the TT5/MT-24ex
combination which is just so cool to experience.

Obviously I still have to Test further with an actual camera to be sure that these work too:
flash-ratios
HSS
FEC
2nd Curtain synch'

For now, Stage1 is accomplished. Thanks for pointing me to the Canon MT-24ex Manual
