Can anyone tell me how to correct this problem. In trying to email an image, after I hit Finish I got a message that said. "A message could not be sent via MAPI. Please enable MAPI on your computer." This just started happening and I have no idea what happened or how to fix it. Any help out there? Thanks!!

Hi Kathy.

Please see this article regarding setting up MAPI for various email packages. Don't worry that it talks about a particular app (footy), the instructions are the same. Hope this helps.

Hi, I tried to follow this information, but my tabs were not exactly the same and I did not have success. Any other suggestions? I have outlook express. Thanks, Cathy

I know nothing about mapi, but do you have a firewall programme running? The message your pc comes up with seems to refer to all email, not just images. I have had various problems with zonealarm Pro firewall, and often need to restart the pc. I suggest you post the problem in other, more general forums on this site.

Thanks, I will try post in a more general location. I am only having this problem with Canon zoombrowser program. The rest of my emails are ok. I can send a photo off my computer, but not through the email program in zoombrowser. This is only a recent happening. It has always worked fine up until now!

Cathy,

I am having the same problem with the exact same message popping up.

I also tried the suggested help but it didn't work.

I have been sending images straight from zoombrowser for almost three years.

I have called canon, and they said to call our cable provider.

I called our cable provider and they said to call canon.

Did you ever figure out how to fix the MAPI problem?

I am so frustrated over this.

In case you want to use Microsoft Outlook Express - go to Tools - Options - General - Make Default Mail Handler.

May be you have no Default E-mail program that should be activated after ZoomBrowser finished resizing/compressing of your images?

Also you did not specify your ZoomBrowser version?

Try to use BreezeBrowser (free fully functional version up to 12 images) from www. breezesys.com (menu Tools - Send images). Here again you should make a choice of your e-mail program. May be these simple screens from ZoomBrowser without a choice of e-mail client is the problem?

Greetings,
Roumen

You could also use Windows File Explorer -> mark the resized images to send (or any other file) -> click right mouse button -> Send to -> Mail Recipient (new e-mail message would be opened in case you have already chosen Default E-mail Program, otherwise a new menu would be displayed in order to choose your e-mail client).
You could resize your images in Adobe Photoshop LE, BreezeBrowser, IrfanView etc.

Greetings,
Roumen

Hi, I am using version 2.4 of zoom browser, outlook express 6 and windows 98.

"In case you want to use Microsoft Outlook Express - go to Tools - Options - General - Make Default Mail Handler."

I do not have this option when I go to General.

Any other thing to try?

Cathy,
I use ZoomBrowser 3.3, Windows 2000 and Outlook Express 6.0 and this option "Make Default Mail Handler" is there.

Send messages option in Canon ZoomBrowser makes the following:
1) resizing the images
2) opening and attaching them to a new e-mail message in the default e-mail program

You could use BreezeBrowser to check if its e-mail messaging function is working (Tools->e-mail messages). So you would know exactly that the problem is in the Canon ZoomBrowser or it is a general Windows 98 problem.

Also you could use batch resizing of your images in BreezeBrowser (Mark the images, Tools->Proof->Resize to your favorite size and Sharpen, choose suitable Quality to reduce the files size) and manually attach resized images to your e-mail message (like pictures or files).

After resizing of your images you could just use Windows File Explorer -> mark the resized images to send (or any other file) -> click right mouse button -> Send to -> Mail Recipient (new e-mail message would be opened in case you have already chosen Default E-mail Program, otherwise a new menu would be displayed in order to choose your e-mail client).

This guy deserves a medal! Like so many others, I cannot email images out of Zoombrowser - the 'MAPI' message comes up. I'm giving Breezebrowser a go as suggested.

IainB,

Normal Outlook Express v.4.7 and later should have an option "Tools -> Options -> General -> Make Default Mail Handler" - it is pointed out also in the discussed link
http://www.footy.com.au/fts/mapi.htm (external link)

Why it is not here on your computer? You may have a virus on your computer coming via e-mail or you may need to install the latest software updates and patches.

1) You may need to install antivirus software and updates - many viruses would cause a mulfunction of other programs.
A possible antivirus solution for non business users is installation of Mcaffee program VirusScan451.exe from the following link:
ftp://ftp.siu.edu/pub/win9x/mcafee/VirusScan451.exe (external link)
The most recent virus definitions files could be downloaded and installed from the SIUC FTP server (every week update - Wednesday):
ftp://ftp.siu.edu/pub/win9x/mcafee/superdats/ (external link)
ftp://ftp.siu.edu/pub/win9x/mcafee/datfiles/ (external link)
2) Installing latest Windows Service Packs and Hotfixes
Microsoft issues security bulletins through its Security Notification Service. A complete tool from Microsoft for checking for the latest patches available and automatic install is Microsoft Network Security Hotfix Checker (HFNetChk). HFNetChk is a command-line tool that enables to check the patch status of Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP machines
http://www.microsoft.com …31154&area=top&ordinal=35 (external link)
3) You may need to install the latest Outlook Express updates from Microsoft site.
4) You may need to check your HDD volumes for errors and bad sectors.

Greetings,
Roumen

I've read the suggestions below, and always have such high hopes, but I cannot find an answer to this problem.

I've tried to send images as attachments, but I hate it! I never knew MAPI was so useful until I didn't have it, although I DO have it!

I have it, but I can't enable it even though I have everything required to use it!

It's certainly strange that canon nor gateway nor my ISP nor outlook express nor microsoft have any answers.

I would just BUY a MAPI program but then I think, "I already have one!!!!"

I'm still frustrated; can you tell? LOL

Hi Cathy,

I used to be MESSL but I had to change my email.

Anyway, last week I got on one of my rampages of why I couldn't use mapi so I did my usual calling of everyone that should know these things but don't.

I finally got a microsoft tech guy on the phone who actually cared! He said that mapi would not work with Windows XP Home, only with Windows XP Pro. I think what I'm going to say will apply with your Windows 98 also.

Then he talked with other guys there, and they decided that if you have MAPI (the fixmapi, I believe) then there was no reason why you shouldn't be able to enable MAPI.

The bottom line is Outlook Express. You have to call them and tell them that you want an email server that can use MAPI, and then it has to be your DEFAULT account.

The microsoft tech switched me over to Outlook Express and told them what to do. They had to call my cable provider and create a new account (POP3 for me, but it may be different for you).

When I open up Outlook Express and click on tools, then accounts, I see POP....... as one account and the "type" is "mail (default)". Then I have two other accounts that are not default.

One thing more, when I send a picture from the zoombrowser it looks like it's going to be an attachment, but it isn't.

There is some adjusting to do afterwards. Save your emails and folders. Also, your "Favorite Folder." You'll have another user name, but it's just a matter of combining the two.

I'll check back here to see if you have any questions.
