Placed it a few weeks ago now. It showed me the 6/13 date for a while and just yesterday noticed that it changed to what I posted. We shall see what happens.

Mine did the same (ordered 4:00am 5/13). I did notice one change, I can cancel my order now could not before.

Nice find, especially the IS tests. As I suspected, but didn't want to burst any bubbles, you still won't be able to shoot at very long SS. Even on say the 24-105 I've found about 1/6 to 1/4s is the limit at 24mm, where as you get a full 4 stops IS at longer FL.

Once you get down to below these levels it is almost like being on a tripod as far as how steady you have to hold the camera and IS still moves the image around, just slowly.

But as a landscaper I'd still rather have IS than f2.8 and I strongly suspect an f2.8 lens of this quality without IS would be heavier.

I think I saw some canon materials that say this lens can handle 0.5s shutter speed at 16mm.

Edit: found it. http://www.canon.com …seum/tech/report/2014/06/ (external link)

Ah. Of course it always depends a bit on what you consider acceptable sharpness and 'hit rate'. 0.5s would be very good IMO and better than I'd hope for (I don't see how 1s is reasonable, but I'm sure someone will manage it just to prove a point).

Interestingly they still say '4-stops', but if we consider 1/FL as a rule, that would be 3 stops. Still I would not expect the same improvements at wide angles as for telephoto or even at the 35mm end just because of the movement you are trying to smooth out (smoothing out quick juddering to where a 1/100s is sharp is different than keeping an image almost perfectly still for 1s - the user can make much larger total movement over that time).

I bought the Hoya Pro1Digital UV filter for the lens. Do you guys think it is thin enough to avoid vignetting?

Ho ho ho. Canon USA moved their shipping date up from June 27 to June 20. Looks like we will see our lens soon.

I just noticed a number of folks have already put this lens in their sig - I guess I'll just call that confidence!
