16-35mm f/4L IS is here!

These will probably start shipping to retailers on Friday, per Canon's website. The release date on their website was spot-on with the 10-22 released a couple of weeks ago.

George's Cameras has it for $1279 and are expected to get it early next week. That's close to the same price as in the US. They're local to Sydney, but likely ship to Melbourne. Not sure how their stock will compare to BH though.

I just called Digidirect Sydney and they said no not in store yet, expected next week

Digidirect offering it for $1218 is certainly better than $1279, I'm seeing if George's will price match now, but they say they have to talk to their canon rep and will call me back.

There is a Flickr group up for this lens now, but the content is, so far, limited to one tog with some rather weird ideas about exposure- ISO 1600 and f/22 in daylight and the like, and a very over sharpened look, but full res.

A chicago store now has it in stock..

Thanks for the tip on PMI Digital. I am leaving home for the summer on the 27th and the original release date was right on top of that so I did not preorder one. When it seemed that the release date would be earlier, I was hoping I could pick one off from a retailer that did not have a stack of preorders to get through. I talked to PMI on the phone, they will ship today's later orders tomorrow and I should have it on Tuesday. I love it when a plan comes together. Assuming, of course, that it does come on Tuesday.

Just got a shipping notice...scheduled delivery moved up to tomorrow (I'm in CT, so usually only 1 day from NY where PMI is located).

That's great- I just got tracking and it says Monday, but I'm in Alabama.

I cancelled my preorder with Adorama and placed a new order with PMI this morning. I have a tracking number and will have it in my hands next Wednesday. Thanks for the heads up on PMI.

bhphoto now expects availability next Tuesday according to their web site.

And up here in Canada... still nothing. Not a date. Not anywhere. Not even on the Canon online store. In fact, they don't even have the lens listed. Ridiculous.

I highly recommend them. Great service and you can get early release stuff from them faster than most can from the two big retailers. I had a D800 from them within a week - no pre-ordering - it was released while my friends who had pre-ordered from the big two were waiting for months. Don't know if Pearl is still there at PCNation or not, but she was awesome.

I'm going to have to abandon my B&H pre-order, just ordered one from PMI instead. Really want it for Scotland before 2nd July.

The only thing I'm worried about is that there will be a number of soft copies out there - Canon is not known (yet) for consistency in their UWA offerings. My original plan was to get two and compare, but I'm scratching that idea and hoping I get a decent copy.

I ordered mine from PMI and cancelled my B&H preorder I have ordered from PMI before and no issues what-so-ever.

I also have used PC Nation on the 24-70 II when it first came out... No pre-order and got it before anyone from B&H/Adorama/Amazon... Pearl was fantastic who worked there. I spoke with her on the phone for a while about photography when I called. Probably the most personable service I have experienced... Wonder if she is still there.

I should likely see the lens Tuesday if they ship out today. Excited!
