I hope for less distortion, better sharpness edge-edge, and I will strongly considering selling my 17-40 for it. Not in any rush, so will patiently wait for reviews and tests comparing the 2 lenses. Curious how it performs against the 16-35 II as well. Would this new lens suggest Canon to maybe introduce 14-24 sometime in the near future? IS basically makes this on par with the 16-35 2.8 in terms of usefulness in low light, although IS is not a replacement for larger aperture, but you get my point. Nikon D810 | 24-70/2.8G | 58/1.4G

They cost double the price now. I don't care what I could buy a lens for in the 80's, I wasn't into photography in the 80's. I care about what I can buy a lens for now. And right now (well, last year when they were launched), I could buy either the old version for x, or the new IS version for 2x. And this applies to pretty much every new IS version Canon has released. And that is why people think it will apply to this one too. It's not Canon's fault if yours or anyone else's train of thought is completely based outside of reality. Canon discontinued the lenses they replaced, again, totally normal practice for any business, people will buy the new product or source the old one used, take a guess what most people are going to do Tommydigi wrote in post #16900654 Price is out 1199 for the 16-35 and 299 for the 10-18. Actually not bad assuming they are good lenses. Like I said... the evidence for why their prices are the way they are is all there, it's not their fault if the general public has unrealistic expectations for pricing. I give it 2 years max before the price of this lens is down to $999 (after the initial R&D costs are covered). Fuji X-T3 // Fuji X-Pro2 (Full Spectrum) // Fuji X-H1 // Fuji X-T1

I'd expect the IQ of the 10-18 to equal that of the 18-55 lenses and this be a step below the 10-22 which isn't going anywhere. So the 10-18 is to the 18-55 as the 10-22 is to the 17-55. Plenty of room for all.
