Why 1/400 shutterspeed. You could've kept it at 1/40 and still get a sharp image or did you want to capture the car driving?

The EXIF data says he used Av mode so that was just the shutter speed for the lighting conditions.

He bumped the ISO to 800 which is why he got so fast shutterspeed. He could've kept it at ISO 100 and still get more than enough fast shutterspeed.

It was getting darker out pretty quickly and I'd also been shooting with my 18-200. When I swapped to the 10-18 I didn't bother to change any other settings. Like msowsun observed, In AV mode I got what I got. Didn't shoot this as a particularly artistic shot, just to show the wide view of the lens and the storm clouds moving in.

Mostly I blame this kind of behavior on too many years of shooting film before switching to digital. At one time I thought this might give me a slight advantage but now I'm not so sure. I've been caught too many times with the light going away and a camera full of slower film. So I now tend to keep my ISO up a little higher just in case I need the speed. It took me a little while to trust auto focus with some of my earlier digital cameras too. My 60D is the first camera I've owned with IS and I'm still having some trust issues with that. And having to have the retina in my right eye reattached about 4 months ago isn't helping either. LOL!

Old habits are hard to break, I guess.

Just ordered this lens to go with my SL1. I hope to be contributing to this thread by the weekend.

I got a ND 3 stop for my 18-55 STM... still have to play with it

Lens arrived and after MFA is pretty impressive. Looking forward to some mountains this coming week.

Love this little lens.

Here are some photos from last Sunday. I hiked the Chief in Squamish, BC with 14 friends. It was an asss kicker but oh so worth it once we got to the top. This lens was perfect because it's light weight, small, has IS and if I smash it into a rock or something while my camera is swinging from my neck, it's only $300 to replace! ;P

I have the Canon 10-18mm and I love mine. Still can't believe that it was so inexpensive and that it takes such good photos.

I look forward to the arrival of mine. Ordered yesterday at £181, with a £25 cashback - £156, delivered. Approx USD242 at today's rate.

Hopefully my images will follow but I have a lot to live up to - there are many fine images here.

As for you, Hermelin, you appear to have monopolized this thread with your many posts and images. All great and clearly show your enthusiasm for this little lens. You show Sweden in a beautiful light and makes me think perhaps I should visit.
