You make a good case for giving this lens a quarter turn and shooting in a vertical format, especially in the first photo. It doesn't always work out that well, but when you're trying to compose a shot in landscape mode and nothing seems to be happening in the viewfinder, turn the camera 90 degrees and move in closer to your subject. Sometimes you'll get a pleasant surprise. :-D
