A couple shots from the St. Joseph Brewery and Public House in Indianapolis. Edited with a FREE download of DxO OpticsPro9, which you can still download free yourself thru Feb. 28th.

It's a couple versions old and may not work with some of the newest model cameras or RAW file formats. But it seems to work beautifully in Win7 64 bit with CR2 files from the 60D.

how do you get into real estate photography? I think it would be a great way to make some cash on the weekends.

I had someone I worked with send me a request to like her realtor page on FB. I liked it and then sent her a message like "Hey, I'm interested in getting into real estate photography and was wondering if you needed a photographer for your listings." I explained that I was new to this genre, but not new to photography, so my starting rate would be cheaper and would get a little more expensive as I got better. At first they said no, but then a few days later asked for my rates. They immediately sent me two properties to shoot that weekend and I shot 4 properties in 10 days for them so far.

The most valuable commodity to a realtor is time. They would prefer you have the photos to them faster much more than them be perfect. I try to deliver them within 24 hours of shooting the property, so you need to be able to shoot fast and edit fast. Communicate with them a lot and be prepared to bend your schedule to work with theirs. They have to make it work with their schedule and also the seller's so it can be difficult to make it all line up. Being reliable and punctual will get you a long way with these guys.

Real estate will not make you rich unless you are shooting a lot of properties per week, but it is quick cash and that's super nice. Most people charge $50-200 per house depending on your area, so I would plan to work for the low end until you get good (I'm at $100/house right now).

Thanks for the info! So i should contact realtors? I dont plan to get rich. Just help fund new gear. Ive noticed a lot of crappy pictures on realty sights lately. I could shoot jpeg abd deliver sooc shots that look better than the crap ive seen around here. How many photos per house generally?

That's up to you. If you have any friends that are realtors, I would start there. They may be able to refer you to someone that needs someone or someone who isn't happy with who they currently have (that's what happened in my situation, their go to guy wasn't reliable). A lot of realtors try to shoot a home with a point and shoot to save money. Ultimately photo money comes out of their cut of the sale of the home, so you can't overcharge or you won't get business. I would plan to shoot and RAW and play with the Highlight/Shadows sliders quite a bit to get a good look. I generally deliver about 40 photos for the houses I have shot so far (most around 1200 sq ft). If you have a larger home, it may be more.

Not the widest apertures of the UWA lenses available, but still managed a pretty good performance stopped down despite the abundance of light pollution present

Glad I found this thread, I've been off the site for a few months but just getting back and am wanting a wide lens. My only concern with the 10-18 is flaring, but based on the images here that doesn't seem like a deal killer if the budget is tight. I'll post some images if I pick up a copy of this lens.
