Auckland city has many inner city areas that are rich in heritage buildings, including the wooden houses from the early Victorian era through to the Art Deco buildings between the wars. I went for a stroll in one of these areas to check out the beautifully maintained and restored homes from before WWI - all of which cost a mint...

Many of these homes that would have started off much smaller, they have been extended and adapted to modern standards of living, but are required to keep their character.

We really enjoyed our stay in Auckland. The Ponsonby Manor was our home for a few days, just wish it had been longer.

I have been living in Darmstadt for more than six years, but somehow never took pictures of the city. Maybe this could challenge me to bring my camera more often.

That is really great architecture of its period. Glad it hasn't been replaced!

I think this building will not be replaced, soon. It was bombed in '44, but managed to withstand quite well. Here is a picture from back then, if you are interested: https://www.fr.de …841_d4b46e095e_k-OGf9.jpg (external link)

Thank you for the image. That took a bit of a pasting, but I am glad it has been restored to its former glory. Have you managed to be able to see if the inside has been restored as well? It would make an interesting project to document the result of the restoration. These are important relics of a very distinctive era in architecture and worthy of recording.
