I wonder how this thing will compare to the 10-22?
At $300 vs $650 can it possibly be near the same quality?
My 10-22 seem built like a tank compared to the other STM offerings.

May 13, 2014 10:53 | #3 It's a 10-18 not 10-20. Looks like its made to fit in with the 18-55 and 55-250 lenses. Looks like a plastics mount and slightly slower aperture.

We won't know for sure until the actual release but I'm guessing IQ will be a step down from the 10-22 as well. Still, I wish canon had this lens out when I started getting into photography. Should be a great lens for the landscape beginner or really anyone who need a APS-c UWA lens for cheap!! I'm a little confused about the need for this lens unless it's in the category of a kit lens quality. It's a little slower but it does have IS. Stabilization is not as important with an UWA but it still helps, especially with video. Jim

Looks like the new lens is a step below in potential image quality. But looks like a nice lens especially for video and as one above said, entry level landscape. All in all a nice offering at an incredible price point imo. Jim

Given the 18-55 STM and 55-250 STM, I expect the optics to be quite good actually, while CA control is lacking, and possibly a bit more distortion to deal with. Past Equipment | My Personal Gallery

I love my 10-22 but feel I could have saved about half if I would have waited for this lens. Anxious to hear the feedback from usage. STM means "kit" http://www.flickr.com/photos/81190407@N08/

May 13, 2014 12:36 | #13 Im wondering how this will compare to the Tokina 11-16 as far as quality. And at half the price, I wonder if it will pull people that dont specifically need 2.8. Its attractive to me and the IS is good for a stop most likely. Hmmm. Decisions. Stuff

One really attractive thing, at least to me, is that this lens has a lower filter ring size, so it's cheaper to adapt filters to, or cheaper to get filters specifically for.

With used 10-22s going for 450+ at half the price, if the IQ is decent it'll be a great little lens.
