I'm looking to take a few iconic shots of the St. Louis Arch. Have you shot it before? Where are the favorite places to shoot it from? At what times of day?
I'd also love some striking foreground elements, if you can think of any. And a place to shoot some long exposure or timelapse with vehicles or other moving lights at night.
Wikipedia says the monument is lit until 1am, is this still true?
Any info is helpful. Thanks!

The "standard" shots are from across the river in East St. Louis( a bit sketchy) and from Keener plaza(about 1/2-1 mile west of the archgrounds) usually with the old courthouse in the foreground.

As far as I know, it's lit until late, I've not seen it unlit at night in many years.

To get people/traffic, shoot just before or after a ballgame, you won't get blue hour with that, but that's when the most activity is.

Right now there is construction expanding the archgrounds across I-70, so you may want to use the courthouse to block that.

Two 'fun' images are to shoot one of the arch from where you park your vehicle - another shot from the top of the arch to where your vehicle is parked. Just 'fun', not noteworthy.

The beginner clicks the shutter and says "Let's see what I got." ... The experienced photographer thinks "How can I capture what I see?"

Thanks! Hopefully I come back with something poster-worthy. :-)

There is access to the edge of the river on the East St. Louis side. I am not certain if it is legal access but there were no signs. There is a parking lot past the entrance to the Casino Queen. At the end of the parking lot is a little viewing tower. If you use this tower you will have large power lines in your field of view of the arch. If you drive past this and turn right then look immediately to your left there is a gravel road that you can turn in to and go over the railroad tracks and through the flood wall gap. Now you are on the East bank of the Mississippi river with a nice view of the arch and downtown St. Louis.
This is a shot I took from that location as well as a shot I took from the Plaza in downtown St. Louis looking up towards the Arch pre-dawn. The shot from the East side is on the same morning just after sunrise with the sun reflecting off the Arch and buildings.
