You should be able to get a good hint of what's on the wipes and at what strength just by smelling them.......I have

I use them for cleaning exteriors of lenses/cameras and other electronics, but not lens glass/sensors because it leaves streaks and I'm not convinced it won't scratch those surfaces. For those I use Eclipse solution + Pec Pads.

If you feel they are safe for one, then they ought to be safe for both. But like I said before, after reading up on them in that older thread I would avoid them altogether in favor of microfiber cloth.

Not exactly. It may be safe for glass, but not for coating. Again, I am speculating, not arguing, as I have no idea.

But seriously, if you didnt trust it for your filters, why in god's name would you use it all? These things are mass marketed through walmart for eyeglasses, just dont let them anywhere near your high end optics.

Not the point. I just do not know, I saw these things the first time just a few days ago, I am completely ignorant about them beyond what is on the website, so I am asking questions. And your input is really appreciated.

Normally I use a blower, a brush, and cloth with a drop of cleaning fluid that came from Canon.

Interestingly enough, we just got my wife a new pair of glasses and the people there told us not to use the Zeiss wipes as they could adversely affect the new hi tech coatings. I've been using them on my own glasses for years now without issue but truth be told, I do better using dawn dish washing detergent and very soft paper towels (Viva).

I don't use them on my camera lenses but as has been mentioned, I use liquid lens cleaner if needed but usually just use the blower and micro cloth.

I've used these for years with no ill effects. Here is what their website says.

"The pre-moistened lens cleaning wipes from ZEISS with their unique combination of active agents provide gentle and thorough cleaning. Independent tests* confirm: the microfine tissues offer the most effective cleaning performance – gentle without causing scratches in comparison to ten alternative products. These tissues have an especially fine structure which does not damage modern prescription spectacle lenses or their coatings. They are pre-moistened with a special combination of two active agents, free from aggressive cleaning substances and artificial fragrances. Individually packaged, the tissues are quickly to hand in every situation and have lasting results: they ensure better vision and longer-lasting spectacle lenses.

Each ZEISS lens wipe pack contains an application description for the optimal care of prescription spectacle lenses as well as additional information on better vision. The new cleaning wipes from ZEISS are also suitable for other optical surfaces and LCD displays, such as digital cameras, laptops, smartphones and mobile phones."

The Zeiss user manual says this:

"ZEISS lens wipes are the professional solution for cleaning lenses and other optical surfaces thoroughly yet gently. Suitable for:

• All spectacles, particularly high-quality, coated precision lenses

• Optical surfaces (e.g. LCD displays, smartphones, tablet PCs, laptops, mobile phones, etc.)

Free from:
• Aggressive glass-cleaning substances
• Artificial fragrances

The high-quality micro-fine tissue wipes and the specific combination of just two active ingredients set new standards in the cleaning of glasses.

Contains: isopropanol, ethanol"

I really don't see an issue using these wipes.

They've listed just about everything, except camera lenses. Why do you think they omitted those?
They as much as say, not for camera lenses.

Hum, safe for optical surfaces, digital cameras and smartphones. I'm pretty sure lenses are covered in that. ;)

All I can say is that I tried them on one of me less expensive lenses and they left a greasy-looking film that wouldn't come off until I used some of my Kodak lens cleaning solution and lens tissues. As noted, they're kind of a rough textured paper; I choose not to try again.

They are talking about LCD displays here. I doubt they have the same coatings as you favorite lens.

By saying smartphones and mobile phones, it seems like they're being pretty specific. I see no mention of camera lenses.

Free from:

• Artificial fragrances

I'm glad you're pretty sure, because i don't think anyone else has made that connection. ;)

I did a quick amazon search when close to 10% of the reviews are one star, I would stay away, one reviewer claimed left smears on their L lens.

Review the thread at https://photography-on-the.net …t=1360826&highlight=zeiss. It would appear many have used the wipes which may be available at Walmart optical departments.
