Do any of you own just ONE lens for a system?

My EF lens collection is down to just two. And I think once the old "camera fund" is replenished, I might look into selling the 24-105 and getting a 2.8 zoom of some flavor. I think just one lens might actually be fine for me in that situation.

Any of you just use one lens on your Canons?

I think it depends purely on what you shoot, there are probably a lot of people that don't need anything really specialized and could get by with just a 24-70 2.8 or something similar. Personally I couldn't do it, there isn't any one lens I can think of that will do everything I need a lens to do.

I have only one.
Of each.

But I have to admit that for the old FD-system I have two 50 mm lenses.

Yea, everyone definitely has different needs. Unless I'm missing something obvious, I don't think there's a fixed lens full frame camera out there with a zoom lens. And even if there was, I'm going to guess it'd be as expensive as the DSLR + lens anyways.

The thread title is "own" - but above you ask "use" - slightly different :p

I own numerous lenses, and for my EF and EF-S cameras I use them all. BUT even though I own the EF-M 18-55, I only ever use the EF-M 22.

So yes, for the Canon mirrorless system, I only ever use 1 lens. It's perfect for the camera. I'd sell the 18-55, but that just seems like a waste of time...

I have three prime lenses as you can see in my signature.
For the 'creative' shots I enjoy taking, I need a thin dof.
For my macro shots at 1:1 I of course need a macro lens.
My 24L II is not a macro lens, and my 100L is not nearly as wide as my 24L II
My lenses complement each other's abilities and inabilities very well.
While your 24-105 lens covers all of the FL's, * it does not have the same abilities at F4.0.
Photography depends much more on the intended subject and final visual result than on anything else.
I would still enjoy photography with only my 50L lens, but I would miss out on 66% of my shots.

While your 24-105 lens covers all of the FL's, it is not capable of a thin DOF or shooting in low light.

Yea, yours is bigger than mine, I get it. :p

Not my intended message at all, my apologies. :o
All I ment to state was I could not achieve my desired shots at f4.0

Perhaps changing your 24-105 to a f2.8 zoom will open up new shooting opportunities to you.
Change inspires creativity. That is while I like photography.

As of tomorrow I will have only the 35/2 IS. BUT, I'll have the 50/1.2 soon after, and the new 16-35/4 IS when that's available.

I have gone lengths of time with just one prime lens, and it suited me just fine. I've had GAS and lens OCD here lately...

My lens collection goes from 11mm to 400mm.. I use both the long and short focal lengths frequently., In order to have a single lens cover both, I'd need one with 36X zoom :)

I work full-time as a photographer, so I have many lenses for my needs. When I shoot as a personal hobby, I typically just use a 5D and 35L or 50L. One lens, one body, one happy photographer.

Nope,

I work from 11mm to 600mm in the same day often. So I tote around quite a few lenses. I have some that overlap. I also adapt old pentax lenses (M42) and tamron (adaptall 2) lenses to my EOS system as well, so I have a few vintage lenses in the mix for their special looks and properties. I probably carry around a dozen lenses at a time, many are small though. I do a lot of macro work as well, so I have a few different setups for that.

I can't go down to one lens. I have two 85's, for two different purposes. It just goes on and on...

And funny enough, I actually use each one a few times in a week. The ones I didn't, I sold. I sold quite a few lenses, including some L's that I didn't use. I only keep what I use. I just rotate a lot of lenses I guess.

Very best,
