Many thanks to our neighbor for alerting us to the Pileated woodpecker nest on his land. I am super excited about photo-documenting this event and cannot wait to get some wee ones in the viewfinder. This is a very rural setting and the birds are extremely timid so I don’t dare get too close. In this scene the male has been inside on the nest while the female was out feeding. Here you see the female returning home.

Dang, Rog. Why do you keep raising the bar higher than I can jump? Lol. Many thanks. I'll certainly try get some better captures.

Cheryl, you have no idea how much I love your comment. After I got out of the military, I lived in western Canada for a few years and your use of the words "Toque" and "eh?" brought back a ton of memories. Thank you so much!

Many thanks, Jeff. These beauties are our year-round residents. I wish they weren't so camera shy and bashful :-)

I can just tell that this is gonna get good Barry!
She's a real looker and it looks like you were pretty close as it was. I'm sure you've thought of setting up some sort of a blind. They will get more used to you as time goes on and we all await future captures. :)
And Oh Yeah.....what Rog said!

Thank you all for the encouragement. I know I have a LOT of room for improvement. This is such a unique opportunity and I hope to do it justice. Be prepared for several days worth of mediocre pictures of nesting Pileated woodpeckers.

Great opportunity Barry! It's a nice shot too. Can't wait to see more and little ones would be very cool. :)
