Massive Lens Flare w/ Lee Filters?

I'll start off by saying I'm new to using the filters, so it could just be a simple error, or something I'm doing wrong, but does anyone have issues with massive lens flare?

When I visited Big Sur a few weeks ago I was messing with the Big Stopper in attempt to smooth out the ocean and what not around some rocks, but every photo seemed to come out with massive lens flare and reflections. The sun was in front of me, but more above than anything, which I didn't think would cause the issue, but maybe it did.

There appears to be spots on your filter from sea spray or something. Flare will show on any imperfection in the surface, and having the sun low will make it worse.

The would explain a lot actually, didn't even think of that.

In addition to the above - make sure you've got the BS in the first filter slot, and cover the viewfinder. You don't want any stray light getting in there.

Didn't realize light through the viewfinder can affect it. What do you use to cover it?

A microfibre cloth draped over the back of the camera or the little rubber piece that comes on the OEM strap.

Yeah make sure you are using the filter slot closest to the lens and make sure the foam side is pointed towards the lens as well.

I have been doing that correctly, so it must be the viewfinder/sea water or anything on the filter that I might not have cleaned off.
