After using it and then going back to my other lenses, it is not going to be my walkaround lens when I want the best IQ or when I can bring multiple lenses. I will still use it when I want the range in a single quite portable lens package, i.e. touristing in NYC/travel lens during the daytime or with good light. I cannot compare to the much cheaper 18-270 version or any superzoom, as this is my first and only intended lens of this nature.

As for more testing stuff. On my 50d, I could not get it to autofocus with a kenko 1.4 TC. 12mm,20mm, and 12+20mm extension tubes worked. The 36mm did not. Took the B+W MRC CP fairly well, but did not have the best sky at the time.

My issue with the decentering during VC is much less with this copy, probably copy variation.

So basically the only two reasons I am keeping it is the zoom range and size of lens.

Don't forget the cost of this lens. The Canon 28-300 here in the UK is 4 - FOUR times the cost.
The Canon L is better all round, but not 4X. I have looked at a lot of pics from this Tamron and for the price they are very good. So I am now NOT going to buy the Canon but this Tamron instead.
It will be here tomorrow so I will see how good or otherwise it is.

i used both the tammy 18-200 and the 18-270, nice light all-in-one lenses, so i guess the 16-300 should be really a big deal, as is wider, longer, and with the new generation VC.
but we can't compare to the 28-300 Canon: Tamron is light plastic, F6.3, smaller for cropped sensors. Canon is the big white L, red ring of death, full frame lens, 5.6.
Lots more of glass for having more light, big and heavy, almost 2 kgs, HEAVY METAL :D
of course as is a superzoom, can't be so sharp like a L prime.

but if i am a pro, who has to face some harsh Antarctica winter or similar, i'll go with 28-300 L, in case i drop it on a rock, probably will be still working.
of course everything has pro and cons, and if i have to shot some candid in a busy downtown tourist market, with a rebel XSi/450D and the Tamron i'll be more low-profile.
in case i dare to show ur big-L white-gun, people will freeze, or come around like flies asking "nice camera, what is this?" losing finally some magic-moments..

Just got mine this afternoon and took some test shot around the garden etc.
after looking at sample pic on the web it seems that I have a good copy.
Obviously not L lens quality, but for the price and the convenience of one lens, it is very good.
I read that it won't print bigger than A4, and I think that is probably correct.
Auto focus seem good but farther testing to be done.
VC appears to work well. More testing tomorrow, so I hope the Sun will shine because the lens does need light to show its best.

I got mine this week. I know it's not going to be as good as the Canon's but I like the range and have pretty much stuck it on my 7D as my primary lens. I like the convenience and will accept the trade off of slight reduction in quality.

UPDATE: Okay, shot some pictures with it. It's easy to use and would make a good walkaround lens if you can accept the trade off of softness. Seriously, compared to an L lens, this is seriously soft.

Will do, but still away on holliday:cool: the few test that I did be for I went were quite good using Lightroom lens correction tool. Have just spent two days using it a zoo so I will see how it does when I get home.
Have found that it needed -6 MAF on my 7D but will do a proper test with FoCal when I finally get home.

NOT a70D but a 7D
I used Canons 'Utility' In live view at 200%, lens set at 300mm at about 2 meters from subject,I set it at this because I wanted to take some pics at this setting, it may be that it will not be right at different zoom settings and distances, but FoCal will put it right when I have time to set it up.
There is link to use Canons Utility to do this but I don't have it with me.

I was hoping more people had picked up this lens. I have the 18-270mm and am pleased with it. I want to pick this up for an all around set-up for my SL1 when I don't want to lug the 5d around.
