Here's a few shots from the Calhan Paint Mines a couple months ago. I'm very interested in any suggestions to improve the lighting, processing, or any other comments you wish to share.

Thanks Kevin! I toyed with the idea of removing the poles, but ultimately decided to leave them in. Maybe I'll rethink this.

Another stunning set! Lose the poles in 4 & 5 though.

That is indeed Orion, impossible to mistake with the belt and Betelgeuse's head poking out at the top!

Lovely set. I liked the poles as they gave me some sense of scale. I have no idea what a paint mine is and without the poles there was no scale for me.

I like the shots where the light comes from different angles within the scene, and different colors, #2. Much more chiaroscuro, dark against light, light against dark to show off those shapes. What was your light source, if you don't mind my asking?

Very cool shots Jon. That's a spooky looking place. What is a Paint Mine?

Sweet series. Looks pretty dangerous to walk in such rough terrain at night.

Thanks hiketheplanet! Noted another vote to loose the poles, and you're correct about Orion.

Yay, a vote to keep the poles. Providing scale was one of the main reasons I kept them in. Thanks MidnightUK!

Thanks TMC! The light in #2 was provided with an old gas fuel camping lantern placed in each of the locations you can identify and one behind us.

Thanks Mark! It's an eroded area in the prairie exposing these gullies, spires, hoodoos, and sculpted walls. I'm not sure where it's name comes from.

Thanks jefzor! Not really spooky, except for when you are on the top of the formations near the edge. One time we were down in the bottom of the spires you can see in the last couple shots and like a corn maze had a tough time finding our way out.
