Any Nikkor lens fans in film days here? I just ordered the old Nikon Nikkor 105mm F2.5 AIS, the reviews made me really excited. it will be my go to portrait lens together with my 55mm f1.8 zeiss. the 70-200 will stay for my weddings and other events.

A local veteran photog reminded me to use a tripod every single time. He said it makes a world of difference. The thing is we all know this but I'm too lazy to use a tripod. I thought it slows me down.

Which reminded me to slow down anyway and be creative.

the shot below was at F2 ISO 500 and 1/5sec.

If i did this handheld, it would have been around ISO2500 to 6400. Ambient light with the Zeiss 55mm F1.8. I think i have to use my tripod from now on.

my boss...

Thing is Vinz they didn't have 'is' back then and as your camera is mirror less there is no mirror slap to worry about. I think if I had to shoot at such slow shutter as your shot I would be more worried about subject movement so the strobes would come out.
Thing is there is no right or wrong way but it always cracks me up when people say you have to use a tripod every single time as it's certainly not true.
It's the same as you must use this focal length for this blah blah :)

I love my tripods, but by no means am I pulling out the tripod for portraits. If I need to slow down my thought process, I'll have a beer while I'm thinking about the composition. ;)

hahahaha. thanks for the tip Corey.

Most primes has no IS though. I'm talking about natural light shooting too so no strobes.

Even natural light, work sensor technology a tripod isn't always necessary.

Agree not always. If i can keep my ISO below 1000 with a tripod though, even with new sensors, is still better.

nice shots clay.

i just ordered a legacy konica hexanon AR 85mm f1.8 for my setup, i hope they're good. anyone familiar with this lens?

Not at all, but I wouldn't mind see some more shots of the vintage nikkor lenses on your A7R. I have a few Nikkors from my dad, but I just don't think I want to give up autofocus to travel light.

Just thought I'm doing a fashion shoot for a feature in a film magazine on Friday and I will be using a tripod!!! The reason I'm using one is I'm doing the shoot with my hasselblad 500 so that's when you defo need one :)

I bought my Dad a Nikon 24mm F2.8 years ago. I borrowed it back as he only uses the 28-300mm I bought him to go along with the d600. I have also tried the 50mm F1.8 that he had, but wasn't a big fan of the manual focus thing ;) The 24mm looks ridiculously small on my D800.
