The Detroit Autorama was last weekend so it was a perfect excuse to get out of town with a camera. But we must have walked at least 3 miles just inside of Cobo Hall.

Thank you, Pekka! I'm sure some members here might have imagined that POTN might begin winding down. But that doesn't make the news any less disappointing. So generous of you to allow us to go along for the ride. As a result you gave us a way to help each other become better photographers. But there's still so much more to learn.

And I even got to do a bit of shooting with REAL models! :-D At least they were dolled up and acted like real models, so I'm pretty sure they were...

Just had my flash mounted on camera so the lighting's a little flat, but had a diffuser on and it didn't look too terribly harsh.

So didn't there used to be some place on your member information page where you could select to allow or not allow editing of your posted images by other members? It would show your setting under your avatar with your posts. Did this feature get dropped with the site redesign or am I not looking in the right place for it? -?

still available to the extent I see some members have it showing, but I myself have troubles finding the different means of changing options for myself...

I would go to the Amass thread

HA! I forgot about the forum threads clear down at the bottom of the page. A little searching indicates that the image editing "OK" "NOT OK" feature was removed. Some members seem to be adding it to their signature line instead.

Ah, yes...

[Image editing 'Ok' on this particular post only!]

You can also basically put anything you want for your location field (under avatar) as it is not labeled. Although, due to the scaling it won't always show.

Correct - Pekka felt that "image editing should be more granular. Now you don't have to throw all your posted images open to edits if you want some ideas about how to fix a certain picture.

Well, whatever Pekka wants... Pekka gets! :-D

Personally, I found it easier to edit an interesting photo with Image Editing OK vs. requesting permission and not getting it because the owner of the photo checked in again 2 pages later. I used to edit roughly 10 photos a month, now I might do 1 photo every 10 months, going through the rigmarole of asking for permission, getting it and then editing. I think we are all poorer in the end...

My personal tale:

My first decent portrait of my wife was edited this way by another 60D photographer (a pro) and it became my goal to be achieved (since I am using different software). I believe it improved my portrait editing by a LOT!:-)

Anyway, as I said, whatever Pekka wants... Pekka gets!

I hear you, and I see what you're saying. But OTOH, if you're posting something and asking for help that's one thing. But if you're posting something that you've got just the way you like it and someone edits it, as you might see it, in a degrading/negative manner, when you've given blanket "Editing OK" permission . . . ? It may be a nuisance, but it's probably overall better to restrict image editing to the photos where editing's explicitly granted.

This still-photo animation is a nice little bit of eye candy. It made my brain want to run backwards and forwards at the same time. But without giving me a headache. And the music seems to be a perfect match.

Wow, I so suck at Photoshop. I'm just blown away. Wish he'd visited another year or two, but I can imagine how long it took to do that...

Best,
Steve
