Certainly was a different weekend. The first race in Europe and the first GP3 race for 2014 had everyone "itching" to get going.

Race 1 was good is predictable, for race 2 the overnight rain turned the track in to a skating ring. 15 seconds a lap slower. Trouble getting the front end to heat the tyres. A couple of the drivers tried wets when the safety car came out (spinner), but it was just as the sun broke through. Tough call but a good gamble at the time.

Tried to go for something out of the norm ....

1. New Year - New Helmet Design. This one belongs to Dino Zamparelli

2. Next time I think I'll try this with the driver in car - Canon EOS 5D Mark III, f/20 @ 15 mm, 1/80

3. With the grid forming up behind me, no one seemed interested in the Merc Safety Car ...

4. Trying to capture the drivers eye view as they take up their grid position

5. #2 Marvin Kirchhofer (DEU) - ART Grand Prix. The assembly area is at the end of the pit lane. Then they all take the very short drive to outside the assigned F1 garage. Not sure why they do it, but it does create an excellent photo oppertunity

6. Morning sun shines into the garages. Thankfully the high grandstand makes an excellent baffle

7. Released from the pit lane, this is what you will see when you come around to the grid

8. Just a bit lower next time - Eye ball level with the driver.

CC always welcome ... The rest of the images from the weekend are on the web site ... click here (external link)

I really like your style of photography as well as your PP. The pic of the Merc is great! I also like the pic with the driver in the mirror. Good stuff!

Incredible work. You definitely have the eye.

Slightly OT-
Number 6 reminds me of the time Peter Collins cut out a picture of himself behind the wheel of his F1 car and pasted it on the mirror of Mike Hawthorn's Ferrari. They were team mates at the time.

(Yes, I am that old.)

Good set, like your way of getting "out of the box" and making pictures with a different viewpoint.
#4 stands out for me.

Thank you for the kind words folks. Trying to find a different view point is a great challenge. Drives me a little crazy at time as it is so tempting to point the camera at the action.

Cheers Dave
