A friend recommended some of their Lightroom presets to me. She uses them and is doing very well with her business. The site asks 99 bucks for unlimited presets for Lightroom, Photoshop and more for a year, but today is the first I've ever heard of them.

Do any of you use purchased presets from them or anyone else? I was tempted to buy the pass but wanted some feedback from others as to the value of it.

Thank you

Sorry, I haven't heard of them.

Can't you just look at the work your friend has used them on though? If you like the look of the results, then you just need to decide if it is worth the money.

Presets are very much personal taste, as they are used to create a style and that is personal to each of us and how we want our image to look. Just because some people recommend them, it doesn't mean they will suit your vision, and vice versa.

It would be more use, I would think to ask if anybody has used them and can post some before and after shots to give you an idea of the results.

Personally, I use the NIK suite more than any other, but still ignore most of the presets because they don't suit my vision. There are a handful though that made the purchase worthwhile to me. Others may not like any, or may like the ones I don't use instead. I would never simply buy presets because somebody else likes them, I would look at examples and see if they are something that would work for me.

I might go ahead and do it, because I'll probably be working with her as a second shooter. I did my first job with her yesterday and it went quite well. She's been hesitant to jump into wedding photography without a second shooter/assistant, and now she might go forth.

Further to my comments above, I have been browsing their site plus a site that reviewed them. The presets all seem very basic and generic, typical cross processing, faux HDR, light leak type presets which are either easily done without an action (some appear to be a simple colour balance shift) or there are plenty of free actions online doing the same thing. They also don't seem very controllable other than being able to continue in LR or PS, whereas NIK have a very good control points system which allows a great deal of control over where, and how much, the preset is applied.

I wouldn't, personally, spend money for these presets as they are so generic and easily found elsewhere at no cost.

If you have a business, then it may be worth getting the package if you like the photo overlays, print templates and marketing materials. There are a lot available and, whilst you can probably find similar free of charge, it wouldn't hurt to have a wider selection and the saving in time may be worth the cost.

Thanks. I'll think a little more on it.
