I took a few pictures of my daughter "learning" golf from her Poppa... I wanted to print one out for him and get it framed (nothing too big) but what to know how or what I should change, and/or which one I should use. Any advice would be great as this is my father two favorite things (golf and his granddaughter)....

Thanks in advance

Could you not find a hole or tee where they weren't substantially back lit? You lost detail on their shadowed faces. It looks like time of day was right for the great light of the golden hour of sunrise. It was a missed opportunity. You could perhaps capture a little more detail if you used a fill flash tool in post processing.

I cant help you decide which to frame and hang for personal use, that is personal, but, from an outsiders point of view, they are all pretty underwhelming.

Every one is off kilter.

Every one looses the subject in their own shadow.

Singularly, the first shot the girl is completely lost in her grandfather - the busy shirt and the tonal similarities are the issue there.

Second and third are way out of balance, with the girl too close to the edge.

Last one, with the golfer NOT looking at the girl - well, all I see is a little girl about to get whacked in the head during his backswing.

You would have really helped yourself had you used some fill flash. The two major things it would have done is illuminated your subjects, and allowed you to shoot with either a smaller aperture, or a shorter exposure time - either way, it would have darkened the sky some to again, help bring attention to the people.

I like #2 for the light on her face. Nobody cares what dad looks like, but I wish that the horizon was straight.

Looks like I'll have to go out on a limb here and say that I prefer #1. Granted the detail in the faces has gone, but it's a nice 'grandad and grand-daughter' moment and I think that's what the grandad would like best. And I'm a sucker for backlighting - although perhaps it was a bit strong in this case!

For what it's worth, a quick edit - lightened the shadows it a bit, bit of extra gradient on the sky, dodge the faces (probably a bit crudely, could be made a lot nicer), and sharpen the grass in front of them.

Thank you all for the feedback.... Anytime it's family I always tend to want more and take a bit more "personal" from a critique standpoint, but I asked, and I learned as well as totally appreciate it.

Adrian, Thank you for the edit. It's nice.

I like the first best, and it is a great edit. The contact between the two makes it much more personal then the ones with her just watching IMHO.

I like that edit. Let's see it in color.

I'd love to see the first in color. In the other ones, the sky is beautiful in color, but kind of flat in B&W.
