That was my thinking when I ordered the 24-105 f/4 but I caught a lot of negative flak from the FF crowd for using the 24-105 on my 40D.

LOL! Who flipping cares about those snobs? Wow. Dude, your photographs are all that matter. What you used or how you made them do not. Most of those "FF crowd" won't even share their photographs because they're terrible at it and are just gear heads. If you take criticism, take it from someone who teaches you how to improve, not just damns you for shooting with a kit-L lens on a 40D.

You can take a Rebel XSi and an old pentax manual lens and make a better photograph than some people, those snobs, are willing to admit. Again, they're not interested in photography, they're just trying to be elite because they spent more money. Don't pay attention to that crap.

Very best,

Ouch! My feelings!
J/K

I knew a guy that this describes perfectly. He stared down his nose at my Rebel XT & 17-85mm when I was starting out. I often saw his $20K worth of equipment, but the very few photos I saw were terrible. He only would take those photos when he was browbeat by the people that he gloated to about his equipment & didn't want to lose face.

bw!

There will always be people with more available income than you and probably people with more talent.
Don't spend your time trying to catch up with the joneses of worrying about what people think go your gear. Take the best pictures you can with what you can afford and let those pics do the talking for you.

I swapped my T4i (650D) for the 6D because I specifically wanted a thinner dof and better ISO at 3200 and 6400. The 6D has been great. I sold my T4i kut and bought a 6D body. You already own the 40 stm. I could go for months with just the 6D and 40 stm. With the added rage of your other two lenses you are covered.

My concern is, I don't think I'm really that good of a photographer to warrant the extra cost to transition to FF.

Very best,

Definitly do not buy 6D unless you want to be just another snobbish gear head, spending money elite, terrible at photography.
Get some old pentax manual lens and rebel XSi and make a better photographs instead.:)

Why people bother what tools the others are using?
Just use what you like, enjoy it, learn how to use it to full potential and do not pay attention to morons telling you not to use FF L on crop.
If you think that 6D will make you happier why not get it?
It's just a money which are nothing in a grand scheme of things. Unless you take food out of yours children's mouths to get it what's a problem?

My wife gave the OK (it's always best to check) so I just placed an order with B&H Photo for the 6D. :D
Expedited free delivery, it will be here this Friday.
I guess I have a lot of work ahead getting comfortable with a new system before heading North next month.

Thanks again for all the replies/comments.

I had the opportunity to get a 1Ds for a song, box and paperwork included, and picked one up. I wanted to get a second body and wanted it to be a FF. The 40D I have is solid and produces excellent photographs that impress me. The 1Ds with its wonky menu system is fine and storing pictures is a little slow but that has little to do with IQ. I only have 1 L glass in my kit and choose to go with mid-level lenses. I love it and don't give a rip that others have the red ring and I don't. I love having two types of cameras formats and enjoy the pleasure they bring. Everything else is just crap.

You will love it. Just take 40 stm and walk around your neighborhood to start.
You will be amazed at how wide 40mm really is on the FF camera. :D Welcome to the club!

The only downside to full frame is how short the lenses actually become. My 24-105 is a super short lens! But the colors are amazing and the pictures are great. Enjoy yourself.

Had a 6D....
Then had a daughter....
Now have an SL2 and Mavic Pro.... Man life changes.
I would encourage you... To just go for it.
