Pileated woodpecker

Forgive me for the overload of Pileated woodpecker captures but this is my nemesis bird.
Today, when the male entered the nest, he stopped halfway in and propped his tail on the upper side of the cavity. He stayed like that for about a minute. It looked like he was either mooning me or feeding youngsters inside. I don’t blame him if it was the former, but I hope it was the latter. I may be posting photographs of Pileated juniors before long!

You've done a wonderful job on this capture. I really like the partial lighting on one of the main areas of interest....his head. It really draws the viewers attention and reveals wonderful detail at the same time. Keep `em coming!

I can't see getting tired of a gold mine like this........ ever..., they are getting better and better each show, this wont come along very often so take advantage while you can, waiting to see the little wee ones! Well done my friend!

How wonderful, Barry! Although this capture is wonderful, I can't wait for shots of Pileated & Pileated, Jr. Inc. I, alas, have never yet managed to get very close to one of these, so I'll live vicariously through your photos.
