So when shooting video with the 70D on a tripod is it best to turn off IS? Or does it matter?

You should only have IS on when you actually need it, or it can hurt image quality.

It is far more useful at 105mm than at 16mm, but the situation also dictates if you would use it , not only the focal length.

This goes back to the first gen IS super telephotos.
Yes it works :) even on those old lenses like my 500mm f/4: IS version 1

Check your lens though, as not all lenses have it. It used to be quite the minority in fact.


All that said, I have no idea (as I am not a video shooter of any repute) whether any of what works for stills works for video. So much of what is being debated here may not apply at all.
