Today in the launch video Adobe and Microsoft showed off some new features in Adobe Photoshop, running touch optimized. I was not a fan of photoshop running on the first 2 versions but with the new UX and the larger screen I am interested. The biggest thing is the pen should work better. I was wondering the communities thoughts on this new surface and more so using photoshop and lightroom on something so portable.

Currently I have my eye on a Dell XPS15 (QuadHD Ultrasharp screen, i7, 16gb ram, 512 ssd, and 2gb Nvidia 750m) so I dont think this will stop that purchase, but it may be a 2nd device.

I read an article where Adobe is supposedly developing a version of CC Photoshop specifically for touch tablets so will have to wait and see if it's true and if it is how well it works. Some folks aren't too thrilled that MS ditched Wacom pen but again we'll have to wait and see. I'm going to be picking one up as my iPad 2's battery is not holding a charge like it used to and I'm tired of lugging my 17" laptop around so this will hopefully be the best of both worlds. I try using my iPad for work and it's a pain butt for the most part I'm able to get done what I need to and it's a heck of a light lighter than packing around the laptop so I'm really excited about the Pro 3... well except for the price of the i7 models.

I've got the first gen Surface Pro (4GB RAM, 128GB SSD) that I picked up during the $500 sale back in February. I really like it but the aspect ratio of the screen would be one of my nitpicks. If I wanted to spend $1000+ on a laptop replacement I'd sell my first gen and get one of these.

I'm getting one.

I have a Surface Pro 2 which I love, it's my main portable computer when I'm not at my desktop at home. I hardly ever use my laptop or my iPad, the SP2 does it all. My laptop is my work laptop supplied by my company which is actually a very nice machine (Lenovo X1 Carbon) but I've loaded the software I need for work on my SP2 so I only need to travel with one device and it covers everything I need from work to personal, laptop and tablet. My only issue is the screen is definitely small for LR and PS. It's fine for work stuff like Outlook and Excel.

That said, I am concerned that the extra size of the SP3 - while making it better for LR and PS - will make it less portable as a tablet. Although it's lighter than my SP2 so weight won't be an issue. I guess we'll find out. I know one of the reports that was at the launch yesterday and got one, he tells me it's fantastic and I'm meeting him for lunch next week to get my hands on it. And like the previous poster said, I'm not a fan of 16:9 at all on tablets, it makes them too awkward to hold in portrait orientation so I'm definitely looking forward to the 3:2 ratio of the SP3.

This is what the original poster is talking about. It is true because Adobe was there and they showed it (like the original poster said). :)

I don't think it's a seperate version of PS, it looked to me like it was a touch mode that you can optionally enable in PS. If you've ever used Microsoft Office 2013, it's like that. Office has a "Touch Mode" that you can turn on which makes the ribbon buttons larger and also changes some other controls such as what happens when you right-click, in order to be optimized for touch. So I think that's what Adobe is doing with PS, just giving it a touch mode that you can turn on when/if you need it.

I didn't realize they had switched from a Wacom digitizer to an N.Trig. I'm curious how that will wind up working out.

Had a chance to play with the new surface pro! The new keyboard and trackpad are much improved. Had enough time to install photoshop and Lightfoot, they worked great with the pen. Now I am really leaning that way and docking up to my dell ultrasharp when I am home.

Nice! I'm actually typing this on my SP2 connected to an external monitor at the studio and I'm really looking forward to the SP3. I've pre-ordered the 8GB RAM / 256GB storage model; my SP2 is 4GB/128GB so the extra memory will be great for LR & PS.

I was kind of under the impression that there was going to be a tablet friendly version and then a desktop version; maybe I read into it wrong.

Well I'm just making assumptions myself. But I'd think that it would be easier to have a single full-featured version of PS that has an optional touch friendly mode, rather than to split the code base and maintain 2 different versions going forward. And since the Surface Pro 3 is a real, full blown computer you want a full featured version of PS on it, not a dumbed down tablet friendly version.

Shouldn't be too difficult. The touch mode in MS Office works great and is intuitive. The video seemed to show something along those lines. Using PhotoShop and lightroom as is, is a much better experience than on the previous surface.
