I hung out by the Red Yuccas today with my new 150-600, although I still prefer the 70-200 for hummingbirds. There were several, but two caught my eye; an old male Anna's, showing his years, and a youngster, probably Costa's. The old guy is still master of his corner of the yard, chasing away all others from "his" feeder, but he tolerates them at the flowers.

1. The fresh, young face.

Haha Moose, I really felt a connection with the youngster through your images until he stuck his tongue out at something......kids these days! :)
Amazing study in these images showing those up-and-comers and those still hanging in there. Both are neat to see and as usual your images are top notch.

Thanks Craig. It's my understanding that most hummers have a 3-5 year lifespan (though occasionally make it to 8).

I have to wonder if this is the old boy's last Summer. I hate finding dead ones in my yard, and it's happened a couple of times.

He kept doing that, and I took about 20 shots because I was always too slow.
