Outstanding, Moose! See you used the "Tamzooka" for these. Think that lens is going on my wish list. Just hope it would marry up w/ my 7D as well as it does w/ your Mark. May I ask what was the typical distance from the subject for this set?

Minimum focus distance, which is just shy of 9 feet. The birds let me get closer; the lens wouldn't .
I think most of these were taken at a focal length of 500-552mm.

Wonderful series Moose. The Tamzoka is working out well.

Has anyone tried a tube or two to shorten the minimum focal length a bit? (Might not do that much at 550 mm).

Ooo... good idea. Going to be out of town for a few days, but I'll give that a shot when I get back!

Hmm. There is something that I'm not clear on then. According to my DOFMaster, an on-line dof calculator, at 5-600 mm, f8 and 9 ' distance, the depth of field is about 1/2inch. Yet you are getting most or all of the hummer in focus. "How you do dat?" Is that calculator wrong or am I missing something?
I maybe should post a more general question along this line in another section. Anyway, I'm curious.

At what f-stop? These were shot at f/8.

edit. Okay, I looked at the DoF calculator, which does indicate anout 1/2". However, isn't there an "acceptable sharpness" area both in front of and behind that? At any rate, I just push the button thingy and post the pictures :)

Nice series Moose. #2 and 4 are IMO the standouts.

I did factor in the f8 aperature. I'm sure the full frame vs. the crop sensor body enter into this somehow and not sure which was used here(Don't know my pro-bodies). Anyway, think I'll post in another section and see what info I can glean from our astute membership.
