AF one shot - sticking

Hi,

Being new to the forum I'm still finding my way around.

Meanwhile, can someone help, please? I have a D7 less than one year old, and when I'm using AF one shot, the focus point has frozen and nothing makes it move. Battery removed, turned off, battery installed, turned on but the issue stays.

The nuisance is that I have a photo shoot coming up and I need it to work!

Any ideas before I bundle it back to canon?

Thank you.

You mean you can't change the focus point from one point to another in the viewfinder?
Two simple things:
1) remove battery and hold the shutter button down for 30 seconds or so. This will drain off excess battery power
2) do a system reset.

So if you are in Tv mode, for example, and you hit the AF selector button, and move the point around with either the joystick (if set up) or the dial, the AF point doesn't move around between all the 19 pts?

I would try first by resetting the camera settings and function values.

Yes. And I should have said it was when set to AI SERVO, not one shot. Apologies.

AF mode has no bearing on the AF point selection, those are 2 mutually exclusive features.

OK, let's try to be more specific.

When using Av mode, selecting AF-DRIVE to AI-SERVO usually allows me to move the focus point around. Now it's frozen and won't budge.

Does this help?

How do I do a System reset?

No, AI Servo vs One Shot doesn't mean anything in relation to what points you use, it just controls whether the camera acquires focus with whatever points are active once, or if it continually keeps acquiring focus while the shutter is half pressed or the AF On button is pressed.

Moving the AF points around are dictated by using the joystick if you have it set up that way, or the dial, after hitting the AF selector button.

There are 2 menu choices to reset camera settings, and to reset custom functions. Just go through the menu to locate both reset options.

Thanks TeamSpeed. Just reset and am now going through the manual again so I can control the focussing point.

Let's hope it works and doesn't repeat.

I'll let you know when all is OK again.

Be advised: Resetting the camera is a two-step procedure. You must reset all camera settings and in a separate step reset all custom functions.
