Modern SD and uSD card is made in the form of SIP package, meaning the entire card is a molded from filberglass/plastic substrate with all memory, controller and PCS within. None of the actual electrical components are exposed to the element except the contact pins. That is why flesh water and mud are not issue. Salt water wills till corrode the contact pins tho.

Older SD cards and CF use PCS with surface mount component inside the plastic housing, so the isolation to element is as good as the housing itself, which is not very good. So yes, in terms of standing up the elements, SD/uSD is better than CF nowaday
