Thanks guys; if you research them, you'll find they are quite common and widely distributed, but also much more often heard than seen. Nifty little birds though and they've really got some strange calls.

You are right Al, they are always in between reeds, very seldom seen well exposed like this, and you've maximized your opportunity. This is a very beautiful shot of the sora. I've always heard them, seen parts of their body, but never had a decent photo.

Thank you for commenting; I appreciate it. I had two things going for me; first a lot of the vegetation hadn't turned green yet, though I was plagued with the old stuff and, second, he was confined along a narrow dike between two sewage lagoons. Having said that, there was no guarantee of seeing him, that's for sure.
