Hi everyone

Been a while since I posted.

Just been using my stuff. I pretty much have a versatile lens collection

Anyhow, I just bought a boat & want to take 5d mkii with me.

I don't need an underwater waterproof casing.

Just something that'll keep sand & seawater out of it.

Splash proof or similar.

Thanks

I use a simple (large) plastic bag and a large elastic band. Costs next to nothing and has allowed me to carry on shooting in torrential downpours at motor racing events.

With a lens hood, simply place the camera and lens into the bag with the lens hood at the bags mouth and wrap the elastic band to trap the hood in the bag.

All the camera controls can be felt through the plastic, but anything really technical should be set up prior to fitting the bag.

Very interesting.

Then saran wrap (cellophane) should work too.

How do you secure around the lens area?

Would love to see a picture.

Personally I would want something far more durable than cellophane, and ideally a double layer plastic for safety. Using cellophane wrapped around the camera puts you at risk of wicking issues as water moves along small channels in the folds. You may not notice that you've gotten salt water on things that could potentially be working its way somewhere it really shouldn't be.

try an Op/Tech rain sleeve. only about $6 for two. They have drawstring to tighten on the lens/hood

That looks okay.

Anything slightly less messy?

I'm ok with paying up to $150.

My only issue is the open end.
I want to be able to put it down somewhere wet without worrying about getting wet.

Take a look at Ewa-Marine's offerings (external link) then. They're intended for shallow underwater use, so will at least protect your camera from spray or puddles above the air-water interface.

Oh, that's even more reasonable.

I foresee myself either taking my 35L or 17-40L

Would the above one work?

Thx

Get a hard case and not worry about the boat movement causing the camera to slide around in a wet bottom or to take any knocks hitting the sides of the boat. It's also water tight.
