I purchased my camera for video, which I'm getting better at (learning angles to capture crowd is a ****). But when I was out with my DSLR many people asked if I did pictures, of course I said yes... I stayed in the house watching countless hours of video and yesterday decided to actually go test some things out, I learned a lot, most of the education came to late after the shot, should've set my exposure to this and my shutter to that... anyway just looking for feedback on shots and editing tips. Which do you like better?

I like the car the best. I wish I could see the kids face and expression. I think it would be great if he was the focal point. Also the pole coming out his back doesn't help. Keep it up.

Ahh good point, pole is very ugly, and yes me too. I was shooting pics of the water and he ran over really quickly, I wasn't focused on him... I waited for him to do it again but his mom pulled him away, super upset I missed the "moment"

To bad you could not catch him with his head up and the big smile I am sure he had on his face.

#1 and #2 are not properly exposed - partly because of the great dynamic range in the scene: a bright background/sky and the lkid far to dark. Fill flash would have done the trick here.
I agree with "losangelino" about the pole but that is a minor issue compared to the exposure.

#3 does not do much for me and #4 is not clear about what I am looking at: some ice, or the tip of a water ray may be?
The car is nice but also a bit on the dark side although it works here.

The last one would have been nice if we could have seen some of the twilight in the water spouts - a bit more sunset red.....
Keep shooting - you got an eye for interesting things but need to learn how to technically get the result you want.
