My 40D has served me well, and will continue, however
I'm soon buying a full frame Canon or Nikon and lens. It's a pretty good investment, and I'd appreciate any advice on the best place to buy, and where not to buy.

Thanks

I have had good luck with BH Photo/Video. Great store and service.

Adorama is another place with a good reputation although I have never used them yet.

Adorama is excellent, and we've got a great resource Helen Oster here to help.

PMI Digital or ProFeel (known as both)

Esther and David have taken care of me on everything ive needed at prices comparable (i.e. price matching) to BH or Adorama, and in the 4 years of buying, ive never paid shipping...

Thanks for the advice. I'll soon contact Adorama about a 610 and see what they offer.

B&H/Adorama are great places to buy, as you will not pay taxes on items shipped out of state. Best Buy price matches, and has the convenience of a no-hassle return policy in-store within 15 days, no restocking fees. I stick to these 3 if buying new. Amazon is ok, but I still pay tax, and don't have the ability to return at a local store. I try to avoid other sites bc I hear an awful lot of bait-and-switch going on.

b&h, Adorama, Amazon (which often seems to just sell Adorama offers AND might have to charge taxes where you live).

40D, 5D3, a bunch of lenses and other things

B&H, Adorama, and as stated above:

Ask for Brandon. Tell him mdjak sent you.

Because they are smaller than the other guys, it's much easier to get hard to find items quicker when they are out of stock everywhere else. I've bought many items from them. They ship same day and are amazingly reliable.

Within the past couple of years, I've snatched up the >$1000 gears when Amazon had the double-dip rebate deal where they would discount an item twice the normal rebate amount.

Then of course, I've also purchased gear from Adorama and B&H as well without much hesitation.

I'd recommend GreenToe as well, purchased several items all fulfilled by Adorama that saved me a good 10% or so amount.

Next on my "wanted" list is either a 300mm or 400mm 2.8. New or used.

I buy from B&H and Adorama. No taxes and free shipping on most everything I purchase.
