It was a mixed bag, weather-wise, this weekend. Still, it was better than the previous days of clouds, fog and rain. I finally got a chance to see Dirty Pete's damaged throat via throw away shots of him. The blackish spot below his gorget is a patch of missing feathers and his skin is visible. The skin itself looks pretty healthy, so I guess nothing of concern. It almost looks like a premature molt in that one spot. Hard to figure.
A couple of friends and their 7 year old daughter visited today. Dirty Pete was his personable self and fed from the little girl's hand. Made their days - and mine. I don't typically let people do this kind of thing, but I love the idea that this 3 inch creature may have inspired something special in this youngster (who had never seen a hummingbird in person before).
1 - Poppy: This was a pre-focused, timed shot (f/5.6 @ 300mm - that I took a few seconds after answering the phone, lol). I'm finding that there are certain poses which require this kind of technique (Um, though one doesn't need to have a phone in one hand for this technique to work
).
2 - Clematis: I wanted this shot to reflect the mountain's deep, dark forests where flowers grow on the meager light that makes its way to the forest floor.
3 - Meadow Sage: Another pre-focused, timed shot. Note that when Dirty Pete wants to stretch he's a long bird.
