I purchased the 6D knowing well that it didn't have a built in flash.
I have a 420EX flash unit that I use on my 40D when flash is required and that isn't all that often for me.
The 420EX seems a bit large for the 6D body but it works.
Question is, how is the 430EX II for use on the 6D when flash is required?
In a couple of weeks I'm going to be taking pics at a grammar school graduation inside. I think I might need flash along with my 24-105 f/4 L lens on the 6D.
Please don't get too technical about flash. It will be an on the camera deal only...K.I.S.S. principal if you will. ;)

Thanks.

It will work as well on your 6D as any Canon EX II flash will. Nothing wrong with your plan.

I use my 430exII with my 6D and 24-105 all the time. Might want to invest in some form of diffuser or bounce card.

Thanks for the replies.
One of the graduations is indoors with typical school gym lighting. I was kind of hoping to get by w/o flash using my 24-105 @ f4 and ISO of at least 800.
I don't use flash all that often and thought I might get by w/o spending more $'s for a flash unit that will most likely sit idle most of the time.

You can easily shoot ISO 6,400 with that body. Just make sure you get a good ambient exposure, your flash will not work as hard so the images will look more natural. A good ambient exposure will keep noise down and a little will be easy to fix.

If you don't use a flash much get a Yongnuo from a ⅓ to ½ of the price as a Canon.

The 430EX II is slightly larger and heavier than the 420EX you already have. If you want to "keep it simple" just use the 420EX on your 6D. It will work just fine.

This is exactly my current thinking on the issue.
