So I am in need of some help and I will try my hardest not to make this a lengthy ordeal. Here is my situation.

My girlfriend and I are going to start a photography business. I have a Canon 40D while she has a Nikon 3100 we both have kit lenses for each of our cameras, but I have a Canon 50mm 1.4 and a Canon 70mm-200mm 2.78L while she only has a Nikon 50mm 1.4. Question number one... Should we go with Canon or Nikon? I'm thinking of sticking with Canon since I feel as if we would lose out on the 70-200 2.8 and my camera is somewhat better than hers. But would love your opinions.

Second question would be about lighting. I ended up selling my lighting gear over a 5 years ago. I had some strobes and a AB1600 with a PLM. Now with no lighting I'm not sure what to go with first. Should I go with two strobes first, or an AB1600 PLM setup? I am thinking strobes because we would get more use out of the strobes more than an Alienbee, or at least I would think. We are going to do everything on-location. Please let me know your thoughts... Thanks you so much in advance!

Those are interesting questions for the "General Photography Talk" section/sub-forum!

Have you checked in our other forums, for example the "Small Flash and Studio Lighting sub-forum?

As to your choice of bodies, whether Nikon or Canon, well, I don't know that any of us can answer that for you. If you are happy with your Canon lenses, why not keep that setup and use the Nikon as a backup/second body?

If you're going into business together and aren't married, I'd shoot with what you have and let her shoot with what she has. If you try to get the same equipment and mix and match stuff and your relationship goes sour that would become messy. Shoot your weddings, split the funds however you want but until you get married, keep your own equipment separate. That's just me using caution for the both of you.

I wouldn't want to invest a few thousand dollars in equipment and then have to either sell it or split it up between the two.

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.
You're a ghost driving a meat-coated skeleton made from stardust, riding a rock, hurtling through space. Fear Nothing!
