Lovely image. My husband saw a scrub jay sitting on the ground, just sitting like your jay, not perching. He wondered whether it was feeling all right. Apparently it was. I guess this posture is normal for jays but not often seen.

Thank you everyone. Truth be told the Blue Jays have me trained well because they know me as the "dispenser of peanuts" when I'm sitting out on the deck photographing the backyard birds. I have 2 that pretty much beg for them and one that will help himself/herself to the largest peanut from the dish when it's sitting a few feet from me. They have it rough in my backyard.
