Ready to Learn 2nd time out

2nd Time out with DSLR, Im lucky enough to live within an hour or so to Yellowstone, so what better place to practice. I did learn that mid day sun makes for a lot of blown out photos. I hope these look okay. Feedback is appreciated.

not sure if it is just my computer but the first image has a lot of artifacting in the upload. Is it just me? Can you try to repost if you see it as well?

#1 is technically OK but I would have positioned the animal to the right instead as to the left. Depth of field might be just a tad wider. And next time get to the level of the animal for a better perspective (just get on your knees... )
I Like #2. Very nice. In post processing you might try to light up the shadowy part on the left to get some more definition there.

how far did you crop in to get #1?

look like its very low resolution.

I cropped most of the road out, so not too much as the it was the bottom of the photo, but I had to resize in Photo shop and to save it within the KB's it had to be on the low setting. I might have done something wrong? dunno. Thanks

ya the direct photo upload restriction is a real prob here,what most users do is open a flikr account and upload all your good high res photos on there then use the tools there to upload the link so users here see your image full res,its wayyyy better than trying to lower the res on your photos to post direct on here,I'm sure theres a sticky on how to do the flikr thingy in full detail,your images will look much better in full res on flickr I'm sure theres other photo hosting sites but i found flickr pretty easy to use

I find thise images good. The animal is my fav. Try a bit mor contrast and clarity to both images. And reduce the blue tone of the sky on the 2nd ione. But composition-wise i really like them!

#1 the right eye is in shadow, to the point there is no recovery.. Think about how light hits your subject. Also think about thirds, if you have room your subject needs to be over a bit to be in the thirds quadrant. It would be a much better composition.

#2 sorry, for me is just a snapshot of rock formation. If its just for documenting, that's fine. Consider how to incorporate it in a landscape composition, if possible, if not, move on for another composition.

Keep shooting, and go to the Landscape and Wildlife forum here on POTN, and look how others are composing.

Your are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful part of the USA. In no time you will be creating great shots of Yellowstone & the Tetons.

single point focus, using back button for focus, on #1 I was trying to focus on the face of the buffalo, and number 2 I was focusing on upper right hand side, trying to get the water falling into the steps.
