First post! We re homed this guy from the highway this weekend. I tweaked the contrast a little bit. I shot them on a Canon 350D with a Tamron 18-270 PZD.

Great pictures and good for you, for rescuing the Box Turtle. Looks like a female...going by the eye colour.

Thanks for being a rescuer... a friend had a box turtle for a number of years, and I was always amazed at how it followed her around. I've not had any experience with reptiles, but from seeing hers, it seems to me that they form attachments the same as warmblooded animals.

Thanks! It is a 3 toed box turtle. My girlfriend has had turtles since she was a kid. She thought it was a male, but who knows! The orange on its face and legs was really vibrant!

Your GF is correct ! We have a Western Ornate Box Turtle....born domestically...she's a female and the Western Ornate Box Turtles males have red eyes.

When I checked some info, I saw that three toeds were different and that your GF was right . I was mistaken. :)

I like the curiosity in #3. Well captured.

I keep a pair of 3-toed boxes. They do form attachments, even if it's only because they recognize me as the one who feeds them. ;)
