Wow awesome captures and they are just beautiful. The coloring of the bird, the composition and the background are all just perfect!

Ever notice how many birds with "Common" in their name are anything but?
Super shots Al, really beautiful.

Two excellent captures Al. I know from experience that they aren't the easiest bird to get.

Great shots! Did you use flash, and if so, what were your settings?

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic comments everyone. We were hopeful these would turn out to be the best shots of the day and we weren't disappointed. I took these at 700 mm, handheld, at 1/640 sec and f/5.6-6.3, and no flash. The strong sun was at our back.

Great shots-been trying for shots of one of those guys since I rescued one at work a couple years ago-got into the store and couldn't fathom that the window was a barrier. Caught him and took him outside. I don't think I've ever held something so fragile.

These are really outstanding Al. Incredible clarity. It's been a long time since I saw one of these birds, they always stayed in the thickets which made it tricky to get a clear shot. Great work!

Thank you so much for commenting, Steve. My other shots of this species are as you describe, confused with vegetation. The gods were with me that day, my friend.
